Madi Bapiuly (1880-1921) - composer, akyn. From childhood became famous for singing and playing the dombra. Meeting the famous improvisational singers Akhan-sere, Birzhan-sal, Madi demonstrated his art, learned from them. By false accusation Madi was convicted. In prison, longing for his native land, he composed the song «Karakesek» in which he told with bitterness about his unlucky fate and the injustice of the world. The creative legacy of Madi was not collected completely. His songs preserved are alive and loved in the people’s memory. Freedom-loving, solemn, exultant Madi’s songs sound on stage and on radio up to the present time. His songs were used by Ye.Brusilovsky in the operas: «Karakesek», «Er-Targyn», «Shirkin-ai», «Madi», «Kyz-Zhibek». A.Zhubanov’s, A.Bektasov’s studies, A.Abishev’s novel «Groza (Storm)» are devoted to Madi’s life and creative work.
