Mombekov Tolegen - dombra-player, composer-kiuishi, honoured Artist of the Kaz.SSR. Born in 1918 in Shymkent region. Mombekov’s first teacher was his grandfather, the well-known kiuishi Bapysh Kozhamzharov. Later he was taught the art of performing by the famous composer-kiuishi Sugur Aliev. When performing his kiuis «Tel konyr», «Bes          zhorga», «Shalkyma» he improved them, put forward the style innovations. Mombekov composed kiuis, among them: «Saltanat», «Meshin», «Katkabat», «Anama», «Koshtasu», «Karatau shertpesi» which are great success. Mombekov’s compositions enter the repertoire of «Otrar sazy» folklore and ethnographic orchestra; «Sazgen», «Sherter» ensembles. Mombekov raised musical traditions to a new height, on the foundation by people’s composers Tattimbet, Sugur and others.
