Auganbaev Shanak - sybyzgy player. Born in 1912 in Eastern Kazakhstan Region. Started playing sybyzgy from early childhood. His first teacher was the well-known sybyzgy player Sherubai. He had a great influence on Shanak’s formation and handed over to him his art of kiui. Among the wind instruments sybyzgy was the most loved instrument among the people, and sybyzgy players were welcome at every toi and festivity. Shanak is a bright representative of the Eastern Kazakhstani sybyzgy school, which is characterised by the lyric and expressive song composition with very high technique of bi-vocal performance. He is one the last carriers of the sybyzgy tradition, the rare samples of which have been preserved thanks to him. His repertoire includes more than twenty kiuis, among which the more known are «Kazakhtyn kiui», «Kalmaktyn kiui», «Kosh aman bol», «Zhamal-ai», «Esik aldi bal kurai».
