Baspaev Jambul - cello player, People’s Artist of Kazakhstan. Born in 1938 in Moscow. Graduated from the Chaikovski Almaty Music School and the Chaikovski Conservatory in Moscow under professors S.Aslamazyan and M.Rastropovich; Professor of Kurmangazy Almaty State Conservatory. He prepared more than eighty musicians, among which there are laureates and diploma winners at international competitions and festivals. Began his performing activity in 1955. J.Baspaev is the founder and leader of the Kazakhstan Cello Ensemble. The repertoire of Baspaev includes more than 300 pieces of world music classics. He first performed the works of Kazakh composers such as G.Zhubanova, K.Kumysbekov, S.Erkimbekov and others.
