Elebekov Zhusupbek(1904-1977) - singer (tenor). People’s Artist of Kazakhstan. Born in Karaganda Region. Elebekov began singing from five years old. His uncle Zh.Balgabai-uly cultivated a love for the art of song. Later he was taught by G.Aitbaev, K.Baizhanov, Amre Kashaubaev. Elebekov was gifted popularizer of musical folklore. The works of folk composers took up significant place in Elebekov’s   repertoire   («Ardak»,   «Aitbai», «Kulager» etc.) He performed songs of Abai with particular mastery. At the stage of the Kazakh dramatic theatre he created the image of Zhapal (M.Auezov,         «Enlik-Kebek»), at the stage of the Kazakh musical theatre - the images of Alibek          (M.Auezov, I.V.Kotsyk, «Aiman-Sholpan»), Tulegen (Ye.Brusilovsky, «Kyz-Zhibek») and others. Elebekov’s art is notable for the richness of emotional colour, deep penetration to the essence of performed compositions, lyric subtlety, and flexibility.
