Erzhanov Manarbek(1901-1966) - singer, actor and composer; People’s Artist of Kazakhstan. M.Erzhanov is a worthy successor of the singing and composing school of such singer-songwriters as Birzhan-sal, Akhan-sere, and others. He considered by the famous singer and dombrist Kusenbai to be his most influential teacher. The many-faceted talent of M.Erzhanov strikingly became apparent in the creation of a great number of wonderful songs. He composed more than 150 songs and kiuis. Such songs as «Zharys», «Amangeldy turali olen», «Koishi ani» were very popular among the people. Kiuis for dombra form a considerable part of the creative heritage of M.Erzhanov. These are «Bi kiui», «Akku», «Zhetysu» etc. M.Erzhanov was an outstanding actor as well. The actor’s and singer’s skill also became apparent in the operas: «Kyz Zhibek» - Shige, «Zhalbyr» - Yelemes, «Er Targyn» - Sakhan and others. In the last years of his life Erzhanov had active concert activity at Jambul State Philharmonic Society.
