Mynbaev Timur - composer, conductor. Honoured Art Worker of Kazakhstan. Born 1943 in Alma-Ata. Graduated from the Leningrad Conservatory in two areas: choral conducting (the class of Professor E.P.Kudryavtseva) and composition (the class of Professor I.I.Pustylnik). For many years N. Mynbaev worked as conductor of the Kazakh State Symphonic Orchestra. Mynbaev successfully combines the roles of conductor, composer and musicologist. He wrote an opera and a ballet, a symphony and a symphonic kiui, a sonata and a quartet, an oratorio and vocal and choral cycles. He creatively follows the traditions of the compositional schools of the past and the present in his works. Kazakh national folklore became an important source in Mynbaev’s creative work. Through the folk songs wide melody came to the works of Mynbaev giving his music particular freshness and colour.
