Omarova Zhamal(1912-1976) - singer (contralto), People’s Artist of Kazakhstan. Born in Yangiul, Uzbek SSR. Studied at the Tashkent Elementary Teacher Training   College.   She   made   a   valuable contribution to the development of Kazakh national opera and song culture. In 1934-1936 she created such models of musical and dramatic performances as Makpal («Shuga» by B.Mailin), Kamka («Kyz-Zhibek»                      by G.Musrepov), Aiman («Aiman-Sholpan» by M. Auezov). From 1937-1976 she was a soloist of Kazakh Philharmonic Society and Kazakhconcert. She is know for the Kazakh folk songs «Bipyl», «Kara torgai», «Irtysh», «Latipa», «Shynyrai» etc.; as well a songs of Kazakh composers «Menim Kazakhstanym» by Sh.Kaldayakov, «Menim elim» by A.Telkhoziev etc. The characteristic features of Kazakh people’s art are peculiar to Omarova’s style of performance, its melody, and originality in transmission of folklore genres.
