Kurmangazy State Academic Folk Orchestra. Founded in 1934 as dombra ensemble and consisted of eleven persons. Originally its repertoire included only Kazakh music. Now there are ninety persons covering the dombra, kobyz, sazgen, syrnai, sybyzgy, zhetygen and other instruments. Akhmet Zhubanov, composer and folklore expert, was the first orchestra director. At different times the orchestra was conducted by the composers M.Tulebaev, N.Tlendiev, Sh.Kazhgaliev. There are about 2000 compositions of domestic and foreign composers such as the classics: Kurmangazy, Dauletkerei, Tattimbet, Dina Nurpeisova, L.Khamidi, G.Zhubanova, Ye.Brusilovsky, F.Shubert, M.Glinka, Chaikovski, I.Glazunov, V.Brams and many others. The orchestra has its own distinctive features: soft harmonic sound, rich expression, lightness in the performing of passages.
