Uskenbaev Murat(1904-1982) - dombra player, composer. Born in Atyrau Region. His father, Uskenbai, was a well-known akyn and kiui composer and the first teacher of Murat. Murat represented the Mangistau dombra school. His repertoire was huge and included more than 300 kiuis, zhyrs, tolgau, terme by such authors like Abyl, Esir, Yestai, Kulshar, Kashagan, Saulebai, Aral, Dosat, Tastemir, Zhylkykeldi, Sattigul. Murat composed much himself, he has about thirty kiuis. For many years he worked as dombra soloist at Jambul Republican Philharmonic Society. Deep thought, civil lyricism, and human dignity mark Murat’s kiuis. His performing style is interspersed with sincerity and charms his listeners. The work of Murat Uskenbaev is one of the pinnacles of musical culture of the Kazakh people.
