Aravin Yuri Petrovich – musicologist. Honoured art worker of RK. Born 1941 in Kalinin (now Tver – Russia).The son of the well-known scholar-musicologist Petr Vasilyevich Aravin, who gained international acknowledgement by his scholarly researches in the history of Russian and Kazakh music. Graduated from the faculty of theoretic history at Novosibirsk conservatory, the post-graduate course at Almaty Kurmangazy State conservatory (scientific leadership – Professor B.G. Erzakovich). Taught the musical-historic and theoretical disciplines at Kazakh State women’s pedagogical institute, Almaty Kurmangazy states conservatory. The pedagogical activity Aravin combined organically with scholarly-research and musical-enlightening work. His attention is drawn to problems, connected with the life and creative activity of professional-folk kiuishi-composers, with issues of singing sources of symphonism, with the genre typization of musical images and programme embrace in symphony music by Kazakhstani composers. Along this, the reports and information at conferences, radio and telecast narration, cycles of lectures in the philharmonic society, publications in the periodical press characterise the scientific and creative versatility of his musicologic activity. Aravin is the author of the popular TV programmes: «The museum of sounds», «The lesser anthology of Kazakh music» and the authorised cycle on «Totem» radio - «The steppe constellation». His TV programme on Kazakh folk music at «Kazakhstan» channel is one of the most loved among Kazakhstani TV fans. Such creations of Aravin as: «The lyric poem to the memory of Abai», «On the issue of thematics of Kazakhstani symphonic poems», «Three poems about the people’s heroes», «The poem by Tulebaev «Kazakhstan», «At the sources of modern Uigur symphonism», «On the history of song symphonism», «The steppe constellations: essays and etudes about Kazakh music» and many others made invaluable contribution to Kazakh musicology. The creative activity of Yuri Petrovich Aravin, his devout toil deserve universal acknowledgement and gratitude. He has planted the wonderful tree of knowledge, nourished by love to music.
