Erzakovich Boris Grishevich(1908-1997) - composer, doctor of art study, professor, honoured Art Worker of Kaz.SSR. Graduated from the Omsk Musical School, and from Kurmangazy Alma-Ata State Conservatory. His artistic and research work began as pianist and musical editor on Kazakh Radio in Alma-Ata. Over several years he recorded Kazakh songs and kiuis of singers and instrumentalists performing on radio: in the Kazakhstani regions he recorded more than 2,500 popular songs and kiuis, recording them for musicology. On the basis of the material collected and its systematisation, Erzakovich published a number of ethnographic collections. Kazakh folk music was the main theme of his research works too. He is the author of a number of works on the history and theory of Kazakh folk music, in which genres of Kazakh song are catalogued, the varieties of personification in music of epic and historical legends are revealed, the national originality of the Kazakh song melody is given a theoretical base, and the characteristics of many popular composers are described. His works about Kazakh professional music are of great value. Erzakovich is the author of fundamental works on the history of Kazakhstani musical art, among them - the monographs «The Singing Culture of The Kazakh Nation», «The Musical Heritage of The Kazakh Nation», «At The Source of Kazakh Musical Research», musical and ethnographic collections devoted to the creative work of Abai, Ibrai, Akhan-sere, Birzhan-sal, Mukhit, Zhayau Musa and others. B. Erzakovich successfully combined academic and research work with the creative work of composer. His symphony and chamber compositions, arrangements of Kazakh folk songs and show scores are well known to the general public.
