Asatayak. The asatayak is a percussion instrument. It resembled a rod with a flat head, decorated by ornament, metal rings and pendants and had open and shrill sound. In order to amplify the instrument’s sound, baksis used konyrau - bells, which were attached to the head of asatayak. When shaking the instrument the konyraus amplified the sound by metal chime.
Asatayak and dangyra (tambourine) were the used in shamanic rites, and were thus not popular in musical life of the people. In the past century both instruments were forgotten little by little. They were replaced by kobyz, which assumed upon themselves the role of the given percussion instruments.
