Sherter. The sherter is an ancient three-stringed musical instrument. The sherter was played in a manner similar to the dombra, but sherter was much smaller than dombra. It had short neck without frets, and was notable for stronger sound than dombra. Outwardly the sherter resembles a kobyz, because it was also made from one piece of wood, shaped into curved form, and the body covered by leather, stretching two strings of horse hair. The instrument had only one           pin, therefore both strings were put л through the head, then one of 1 it was fastened to the pin, another - to the head. The tuning of strings was connected with long structure of the instrument. The string, fastened to the head of sherter, was strung by hand, the second one, fastened to the pin, was tuned according to the pitch of the first string’s sound. The sherter was used mainly for the escorting songs, stories, and legends. It was popular among shepherds.
